Walker Engineering is helping NAWIC with the Dream Dinners Fund Raiser which will help raise money for NAWIC Chapter #74 so that members can attend conferences, participate in community events and participate in other NAWIC functions. The fundraiser starts March 21, 2010 and runs until April 17, 2010. See the event flyer for more information and join in on the fun!

Walker Engineering, LLC participated in the NAWIC Chapter 74 event called Ms. Fix It. The event was held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 and is a collaboration with the Girl Scouts to help them earn their “Ms. Fix It” badges. The event provides workshops to educate the girls on careers in construction, along with assisting them to earn their “Ms. Fix It” badges. The workshops that were provided this year involved painting, working with pavers and artificial turf, CAD drafting, working with door locks and making “chocolate” asphalt. It was a fun event to participate in.

Walker Engineering was proud to participate with the United Way Young Philanthropists Society (YPS) on March 3rd in a great day of reading at the K-5 Kermit Roosevelt Booker Empowerment Elementary School. The members of YPS participated in Nevada Reading Week by reading stories to four classes each and we had such a great time with the students, staff and other YPS members. Thank you to United Way of Southern Nevada for putting together this great event!

Walker Engineering is proud to have been nominated for the Engineer of the Year Industry Award at the NAIOP 13th Annual Southern Nevada Spotlight Awards 2010. The event at M Resort on March 13th was a huge success and Oscar Goodman provided many laughs to keep everyone entertained. Congrats to all the great award winners and to NAIOP for putting on such a great event!

Congratulations to NAWIC for putting on a great Women in Construction Week! WIC WEEK WAS DESIGNED TO INCREASE THE VISIBILITY OF WOMEN WORKING IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY, SHARE OUR PASSION AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO JOIN NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION.

UNLV College of Engineering is hosting the ASCE Student Conference this year. Walker Engineering will be participating in the event for the student Concrete Canoe Competition on April 8th and April 9th. Go UNLV!

Walker Engineering attended the United Way Women's Leadership Luncheon at the Paris in February and what an event! Marie Osmond was the keynote speaker and she is clearly an amazing (and funny!) woman. Our community is lucky that Marie has chosen Las Vegas as a home for her family. For all you women out there, check out the United Way Women’s Leadership Council if you are interested.

WALKER ENGINEERING has received national certification as a Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE)by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council - West, a regional certifying partner of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).
WBENC’s national standard of certification implemented by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council – West is a meticulous process including an in-depth review of the business and site inspection. The certification process is designed to confirm the business is at least 51% owned, operated and controlled by a woman or women.
By including women-owned businesses among their vendors, corporations, and government agencies demonstrate their commitment to fostering diversity and the continued development of their supplier/vendor diversity programs.
Walker Engineering now holds not only a DBE certificate, but also a WBE certificate.
